Alan Foster has been guiding for 30 years, and after a 10 year teaching career, he became a Driver Guide in London. He moved to the beautiful Cotswolds with his family and became a South West England qualified Blue Badge guide.
He now lives in a 15thC home, with his wife, in the Cotswold Town of Winchcombe, and is most happy when showing visitors the ‘Real England’ – including the parts that only locals know and many visitors miss.
Alan’s love for history around us is seen immediately. You will find the social history of every day people, through the ages quite fascinating, as you relax through your journey.
What is a Blue Badge Guide ?
Blue Badge Guides are professionally selected, and complete in-depth courses in the history and cultural aspects, safety and presentation, to pass a series of extensive examinations. If successful, they are then awarded the prestigious Blue Badge and become a Member of the Institute of Tourist Guides.
Britain is divided into many tourist areas – The South West of England is one of the largest. Each area has specialist guides, qualified to guide to a high standard in that area.
The Art of the Driver Guide
The aim is to be on hand when needed and to disappear when not. The art is knowing the difference. With an Experienced Driver guide you will find this is the ideal way to travel. You will want private time to experience the area on your own, but make sure you are not missing and importance interesting features as you travel.
